This is one of the most common questions we are asked by new clients, "why do you need to sweep your chimney?"
Our fire places go untouched during the spring and summer months but when the nights start to draw in and the temperatures drop in the Autumn, our woodburners and fireplaces come into their own and once again provide warmth and comfort to our homes.
As your chimney has been untouched for many months, it's vital you have it swept to ensure there are no blockages or debris that could put your chimney at risk of a fire.
Every year in the UK there are thousands of chimney fires, which is why it's so important to have regularly sweeps, cleans and repairs.
When is the best time to have my Chimney swept?
Mr & Mrs Chimney recommend you consider having your chimney swept at least once a year, just before the start of the heating season, which can be as early as from August.
If you use a stove, woodburner or fireplace all year round then we recommend your chimney is swept twice a year.
We are contacted by clients across the South East Of England throughout the year, but our busiest period is between August and December.
How do you know if your Chimney needs sweeping?
Although we recommend an annual chimney sweep, we realise not everybody does this. There are several tell-tail signs that your chimney needs cleaning, which we have listed below.
When smoke is blown back into the room
Soot and debris is regularly falling into the fireplace
Your fire isn't 'drawing' as it should
You notice a bad smell in and around your fireplace
It's really important you look after your chimney as a poorly maintained chimney can be very dangerous to you, your family and your home.
