If you have a bird stuck in your chimney flue, the first thing you should do is try to determine if the bird is alive or sadly dead.
If the bird is alive, you can try to gently coax it out by using a flashlight to guide it towards the opening of the chimney. You can also try shining a bright light into the chimney, which may encourage the bird to fly out on its own.
If the bird is dead, unable to escape or if you are unable to coax it out, you will need to call a professional chimney sweep (like us!) to remove the bird for you as soon as possible to clear the flue and save the bird if possible!
If the bird has sadly passed we need to avoid blocking the flue for safety reasons.
Mr and Mrs Chimeny Sweep have the tools and experience necessary to safely remove birds (and other animals) to prevent any further problems.
Birds - do like Chimney Stacks!
If you have birds nesting in an unuesed stack, the best thing to do is to leave them alone. Disturbing or removing the nest can be harmful to the birds, and it is illegal to do so in many areas without a permit. Instead, you can try to prevent birds from building nests in your chimney in the first place by installing a suitiable chimney cap. This will block the opening of the chimney appropiatly and prevent birds from entering. If birds are already nesting in your chimney, Mr and Mrs Chimney Sweep can remove the nest and install a chimney cap or screen to prevent future nesting.
And old nest blocking a flue - no more!
